Sex Myths that refuse to go away

Despite years of being debunked, disproven and laughed at, there are some sex myths that just refuse to go away. Penis size, orgasm length, women being more open to bisexuality…all have been proven to be usually over exaggerated or false. Yet they remain. The reason they remain is due to a mass media culture unable to resist propagating tired stereotypes.

Below are a few sex myths. We will go through each one explaining why it shouldn’t be believed.

MYTH 1 – Size Matters
This is applicable to men and women. For men it’s the penis and for women it’s usually the size of her breasts. Men care a lot about the size and shape of their penis. Women worry about the size and shape of their breasts. At the end of the day though, if the sexual compatibility between two people means great sex regardless, why should it matter? The argument that larger penises can create a larger and more intense orgasm during penetrative sex is largely psychological. The mind set two people are in when having sex will have more effect on the ability to orgasm then anything you have dangling between your legs or being inserted inside you. Also from a proven scientific standpoint penis girth more than length is more likely to increase physical stimulation. That aside, it will always come back to where your mind is in the moment.

MYTH 2 – Men want casual sex and women want commitment
You only have to look at 50% of the profiles on our site to know that simply isn’t true. In fact it is now becoming far more common for women more then men to want a casual relationship as opposed to a monogamous committed one. The rise in women’s equality has meant that many women no longer feel the need to settle and commit straight away or at all. That doesn’t mean that they can’t enjoy a healthy sexual life. Interestingly the number of men who want a committed relationship has risen in the past decade. Digest those facts if you can!

MYTH 3 – Women are naturally more bisexual
In porn this might be true. Back in the real world, it’s bullshit. Whilst it’s true that women can be more fluid in their gender with regards to sex (generally because they have less hang ups) it doesn’t mean that they identify themselves as bisexual and nor does it mean that there are less straight men willing to experiment. The myth mainly comes from the mass marketing of lesbian porn aimed directly to straight men. It has no basis in fact.
